Depression is thought to be a process of both psychological and also biological within a person’s self. Stress is known to be the main trigger in depression and this can come from work or home. General feelings of depression are normal within us all; unless of course it starts to affect your ability to think and act rationally and stops you going about your daily duties.  If you regularly get depressed it may not be something in your life that is causing the depression; but rather something within your brain; your brain chemistry may be triggering the depression.

It is thought to some degree that depression can actually be genetic and pass from family member to family member; making it all the more important to keep an eye out for signs of depression early on.

Normal feelings of depression can last for a few weeks and then start to subside; it is when the feelings don’t go away that professional help needs to be sought out immediately. Your doctor will need to know you have had the same depressed feelings for at least 2/3 weeks before he will go ahead with treatment.

Many people do well on medication prescribed by the doctor; this and a course of therapy and counseling can really help the depression sufferer immensely. We are beginning to understand depression more and realize what effect it can really have on people; the need for treatment is a must.

There are herbal remedies and exercise is a known threat to depression; regular physical activity can ward of even the most severe types of depression; but other treatment may still be required.  St John’s Wort is a commonly used herbal medicine when fighting depression,  research shows that depressed patients showed a recovery within 2 weeks of taking this herbal tablet or supplement; this is however only on mild cases of depression; the more severe types of depression needs to be treated in other ways other than using herbal medicine.

It is thought that if a person is lacking in certain vitamins and minerals within their diet through food or supplements; can become depressed easier and more frequently than those who take the daily recommended allowance of such vitamins and minerals. A healthy and nutritious diet can go a long way to making sure you beat that depression and feeling of anxiety.

More severe treatment can include high dosages of anti depressants; some people do not want to take these; but they may have to dependant on the severity of their depression.  Counseling can also help treat a person with depression; as if it was caused by a traumatic event in their lives; get to the bottom of that problem and rectify it through talking and letting everything out instead of holding it all inside.

There are many reports of treatments against depression; always speak to your doctor or health professional; whether you decide to go natural or not. Your doctor should be able to help you in whatever your decision in treatment may be.
